Privacy policy
Short version: no accounts, we don't sell anything about you, your location never leaves your device, and we only keep what you choose to send us in a review or a message.
Last updated 23 October 2026. Written to follow the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
- Website analytics. To see which pages are useful, we may use Cloudflare Web Analytics (no cookies, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking) and Google Analytics 4 (uses first-party cookies; we switch off Google signals and ad personalisation). These record things like the page you viewed, the type of device and browser, the country/region you're in (derived from your IP address, which isn't stored by us), and how you used the site – for example which park page you opened, what you typed in the park search, which filters you tapped, or whether you clicked through to a council website or a partner shop.
- "Near me". If you tap Near me, your browser asks for permission. Your exact location is used only on your device to sort parks by distance. We never send your coordinates anywhere. Analytics only records whether you allowed it and a rough distance band to the nearest park (e.g. "1–2 km").
- Reviews & photos ("sniff reports"). When you post a review we store what you submit – the park, your star rating, your small-dog answer, your text, the name you choose (optional) and any photo – plus the date, the country your request came from, and a salted, one-way hash of your IP address (not the IP itself) that we use only to stop spam and abuse. Every review is checked by a person before it appears; once approved, your text, rating, chosen name, date and photo are public on the park page. We strip hidden photo data (such as EXIF/GPS location and camera details) before storing a photo. Please don't include other people's faces, number plates or personal details. Reviews are kept while the park is listed; rejected reviews are deleted within 90 days. Ask us (via the contact form) to remove your review at any time.
- Contact form. When you use our contact form we store your name, email address, topic, message, the page you came from, the date, the country your request came from and a salted IP hash, and we forward a copy to our team inbox by email so we can reply. We use your email only to reply to you, never for marketing, and delete messages within 24 months (sooner on request).
- Spam protection. The review and contact forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks signals from your browser (not puzzles, not cookies for advertising) to tell people from bots.
- Emails. If you email us, we use your email only to reply.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-ups, no advertising profiles, and we don't sell or rent personal information.
- We don't knowingly collect sensitive information or information about children.
Third parties
- Cloudflare hosts the site and may process technical request data (like IP addresses) for security and delivery. Reviews, photos and contact messages are stored with Cloudflare (D1 database and R2 storage), contact-form copies are delivered via Cloudflare Email Routing to our email provider (Google), and Turnstile is provided by Cloudflare. These services may store data outside Australia.
- Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap; your browser requests map images directly from them. Fonts come from Google Fonts.
- Google Analytics (if enabled) stores data on servers that may be outside Australia (e.g. the United States). You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies.
- Some links go to council websites or partner shops (affiliate links are labelled). Their own privacy policies apply once you leave our site.
Keeping it safe and how long we keep it
Analytics data is kept in aggregate for up to 14 months and then deleted. Reviews and contact messages are kept as described above. Only the site owner can open the moderation tools, which are protected by a secret key. We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or make a privacy complaint using our contact form (choose "Privacy or remove my review"). We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with our response you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
